Das hochgiftige Camptothecin besitzt nachgewiesene zytostatische und Antitumoraktivität, die auf einer einzigartigen Fähigkeit von dieser und verwandter Substanzen beruht [18]: Sie hemmen die nukleäre DNA-Topoisomerase I, so dass die Replikation und Transkription gestört werden [18]; Aufgrund der Giftigkeit von Camptothecin wurden teilsynthetische Analoga entwickelt [18] (durch die US FDA zugelassen [18]), wie 9-Amino-20S-camptothecin, Irinotecan (= Irinotecanhydrochloridtrihydrat, "CPT-11" oder "Campto") und Topotecan ("Hycamtin") [18]; Teilsynthetische Analoga von Camptothecin werden gegen verschiedene Krebsformen, wie z.B. Ovarial-CA, Rektum-CA oder Pankreas-CA, eingesetzt [18]
